The White House said on Friday it expected Sweden to join NATO “in the near future”. It is “possible” that Turkey and Hungary, which are currently blocking Stockholm’s membership, will change their position next week at the Alliance summit in Vilnius, said Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the White House, stating that even if this was not the case, Washington believed “that it will happen (it) in the near future”.

Turkey will take “the best decision” regarding Sweden’s membership of the Atlantic Alliance, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday. “We will discuss it with our partners at the summit to be held in Vilnius on Tuesday and we will take the best decision, whatever it is,” he added.
