Special envoy to Cauterets-Cambasque
The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, as often, made a detour via the Tour de France in the Pyrenees by attending part of the sixth stage between Tarbes and Cauterets-Cambasque this Thursday. The Head of State was present on the podium at the handing over of the jerseys and was even able to exchange a few moments in a thick hubbub with Jonas Vingegaard, dressed in yellow.
But the discussion struggled to return to the memory of the winner of the Tour de France 2022 questioned a few moments later on the content of the exchange. “Ah… I can’t remember…”, explained the Dane caught in the media whirlwind after a spectacular stage. The leader of the Jumbo Visma, a little embarrassed, searched for his words, looking to his right and to his left, trying to collect some memories that eventually resurfaced.
“Oh yes. He was happy to see me again. I thought he remembered our meeting on stage 17 or 18 last year and he wished me good luck for the rest of the Tour de France”, smiled the leader of the general classification, never very talkative when speaking to the media.
Emmanuel Macron did not give any further information on this brief meeting. The Head of State, unlike other years, did not wish to speak at the microphone of France Télévisions.
