A Wimbledon,

Grégoire Barrere is in good shape. He who reached the best ranking of his career (49th) following a semi-final at Eastbourne, held his rank in 3:10 against Lloyd Harris. For the first time in the second round of Wimbledon since 2019, he will face Denis Shapovalov, winner of Radu Albot. “The conditions were very different from Eastbourne. Grass is slower. In Halle it was faster. We’re going a bit into the unknown. After that it remains a bit the same in terms of travel. I had time to familiarize myself with the conditions. I’m glad I got out of it today. It was a big fight. I had lost in the first round in Australia and at Roland-Garros. I did not want to continue with a third consecutive defeat at this stage of the competition.

The 29-year-old is enjoying his best season on the circuit. Now a member of the top 50, he can dream of the Olympic Games. “It’s a goal I set myself at the start of the season. I was lucky to have won at least one match in each tournament category. I now want to represent France. If it’s not in the Davis Cup, I hope it will be in Paris in 2024 at the Olympics. Being Parisian, it’s a dream to be there.”
