Bubbles, applause, shouts and songs. Victor Lafay’s victory with panache in San Sebastián in the second stage of the Tour de France this Sunday was celebrated at the hotel with a well-deserved party in the evening. Cofidis had been waiting for this moment in the Grande Boucle for fifteen years.
To everyone’s surprise, the 27-year-old puncher from Lyon attacked one kilometer from the finish, surprising all the favorites for victory and in particular Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) and Wout van Aert (Jumbo Visma) who had to settle for places of honor on the podium.
Cofidis will quickly have to recover from his emotions since the Tour de France continues this Monday with the third stage and a finish in the streets of Bayonne offering the possibility to the sprinters to win.
