Spain coach Jorge Vilda has named double Ballon d’Or Alexia Putellas, recovering from her long injury, in his final list of 23 players for the World Cup (July 20 – August 20), as well as three former “rebellious”.
Among the 15 players who had asked to no longer be selected for the national team, in conflict with the federation, Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati, Mariona Caldentey and Ona Batlle changed their minds and were called up.
On the other hand, their teammates in Catalonia Patri Guijarro, Mapi Leon and Sandra Panos remain away from the national team. Vilda has ruled out six players from the expanded squad he called up on June 12, including injured Atletico Madrid defender Sheila Garcia and partner Marta Cardona.
Spain won 7-0 against Panama in a warm-up match on Thursday, and goalscorer Alexia Putellas regained a starting spot for the first time since her cruciate ligament rupture in her left knee in July 2022.
