“Everything is fine. Barcelona want me to renew my contract until 2027”, confided Ousmane Dembélé during the month of June. This Wednesday, the Catalan daily Sport claims that the French winger shares this wish. He would have entrusted it to his trainer, Xavi. Aged 26, Dembélé would not see himself leaving despite a special clause in his contract.
Dembélé has a €50m release clause, active until mid-July. Barca would like to quickly settle Dembélé’s extension so as not to fear that a club will pay the amount, which would allow them to make a contract offer for the 2018 world champion.
In recent months, Paris Saint-Germain had been linked with Dembélé, who himself had sworn that there was “nothing” between him and the French champion club. PSG had already coveted him a year ago, while Dembélé had negotiated for an eternity with Barça before finally extending until 2024. The former Rennais played 35 matches last season including 23 starts, compiling 8 goals and 9 assists. Barça were crowned champions of Spain last May.
