Stainless Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder, who was out of contract at Real Madrid, extended his lease until June 2024. He thus imitates his friend Toni Kroos, who also signed a one-season extension last week. Saudi Arabia had recently tried to enlist him for a golden end to his career, in vain.

Modric, Ballon d’Or 2018, will celebrate his 38th birthday on September 9, but he is still an essential for Carlo Ancelotti. He played 52 matches last season, including 33 as a starter. The Croatian will face a stronger competitor than ever in his sector: Kroos, Federico Valverde, the French Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga, as well as the rookie Jude Bellingham are contenders for the Madrid starting lineup.
