Valencia coach Ruben Baraja, who arrived during the season in February, has extended his contract until 2025 after having managed to keep his club in the top flight, the Spanish team announced on Thursday.

“His great qualities as a leader and his personality were decisive in changing the dynamics of players who had until then been paralyzed by poor results,” Valencia continued in a press release.

The former international midfielder, who won La Liga twice with Valencia (2002, 2004) and has 43 caps, took charge of the team when they were 18th and finished the season in 16th place, with two points ahead of the relegated.

As a coach, the 47-year-old technician has only managed modest clubs so far (Elche, Rayo Vallecano, Sporting Gijon, Tenerife and Zaragoza), never managing to register over time.
