Do movies and politics mix? Not sure, according to the twice Caesarized actress Sabine Azéma and the actor-rocker Eddy Mitchell, brought together by Bruno Podalydès in his comedy Wahou! (June 7 on screens). In a joint interview with the JDD, they comment on the committed speech of Justine Triet, palme d’or 2023 for her film Anatomy of a fall. And the least we can say is that the words of the young director did not please them.

Eddy Mitchell, whose outspokenness we know, was the most virulent: “This girl is thinking about her retirement, she does not interest me. I’m not going to see his movie. What I liked about Cannes were the presence of Harrison Ford and Martin Scorsese”.

The actress with two César (A Sunday in the countryside in 1985 and Mélo in 1987), with a joyful character, was less vindictive. However, she does not fail to castigate the too polemical spirit of Justine Triet: “I am an actress, not a producer or director. So, forgive me if I prefer to keep my innocence… We’re tired of controversy. I haven’t seen his films. I’m not sure that his statement makes us want to discover them.

By attacking the government and its management of the pension reform, Justine Triet may have “lively scuttled the joy that hundreds of thousands of spectators had in discovering her film” as Le Figaro wrote. The reactions of Sabine Azéma and Eddy Mitchell seem to confirm this.

Wow! by Bruno Podalydès, released on June 7, with Karin Viard, Bruno Podalydès, Sabine Azéma, Eddy Mitchell, Agnès Jaoui…
