At 37, Mathieu Debuchy will leave the field. The former French international (27 caps) announced his retirement at the end of the season with 11 Valenciennes.

“It had been under consideration for several weeks” explains the future ex-defender. French champion with Lille in 2011, Mathieu Debuchy moved to Newcastle or Arsenal then, before landing in Valenciennes in 2021. Captain of VAFC, the former LOSC player has been sidelined for some time.

“The priority remains the maintenance and survival of the club, assures Mathieu Debuchy, since Valenciennes is 15th in Ligue 2 with only three points ahead of the first relegation player. My situation is clear, I’m going to put an end to my career but for the rest I don’t want to broach the subject”, then adds the former Blue, who “registered to take the first diploma of coach.”
