French director Julia Ducournau, Palme d’Or in 2021 with Titane and American actress Brie Larson, Oscar winner for Room, are on the jury of the 76th Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27), chaired by the Swede Ruben Östlund, the organizers announced on Thursday. This jury, made up of five men and four women, thus includes the last two winners of the ultimate award given on the Croisette, Östlund having won its second Palme d’Or last year for Sans Filtre.

His mission will be to choose the Palme d’Or 2023 from among the 21 films announced in competition, including Asteroid City by Wes Anderson, Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet, Monster by Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner in 2018 with A Case of family, or The return of Catherine Corsini.

This jury is also made up of Moroccan director Maryam Touzani (Le bleu du caftan), French actor Denis Ménochet (As Bestas), British-Zambian director Rungano Nyoni (I’m not a witch), American actor and director Paul Dano (Okja), Afghan writer and director Atiq Rahimi (Goncourt Prize in 2008 for his novel Syngué sabour) and Argentinian filmmaker Damian Szifron (The New Savages).

To constitute this jury, the organizers underlined in a press release that they wanted to “welcome the arrival of a generation of artists who produce, who play, who sing, who write”. He will announce his prize list on Saturday 27 May in the evening.
