Real Madrid were a game behind Girona, surprising leader of La Liga. This Thursday evening in Getafe, the Madrilenians therefore had the opportunity, if successful, to take the lead in the championship. Done. Carlo Ancelotti’s men won against neighboring Madrid (2-0) with a double from Joselu.

Dominant in the first half, the Madrilenians quickly opened the scoring in this match. After excellent work from the Madrid midfielder, Lucas Vazquez (very prominent this Thursday evening) sent an excellent cross to Joselu in the penalty area. The Merengues scorer, often a substitute but this time starting (while Rodrygo was resting), jumped higher than Domingos Duarte to score a powerful cross header (14th).

In the second half, Getafe showed a new face, especially in the first five minutes. Unfortunately, the locals hit the uprights twice (a post, a bar), and Joselu took the opportunity to score a second goal at the start of the second half (56th) to make the break, after good work from Bellingham, Mendy then Vinicius in midfield. The Brazilian striker, starting up front alongside Joselu, had two opportunities to seal the fate of the match but missed them. First a two against two lost despite an excellent pass from Joselu, then a 1 against 1 lost against Getafe goalkeeper David Soria, rather in good shape and decisive on his line despite the score.

Despite a few strikes from Mason Greenwood for Getafe (53rd, 54th, 80th, 90th 2), the Azulones only scored two small strikes and were not really dangerous (apart from these two strikes which hit the uprights ). Real Madrid (1st, 57 points) is now two points ahead of its runner-up Girona (55 points) and 10 ahead of third, Atlético de Madrid. For its part, Getafe stagnates in 10th place in La Liga (29 points) and remains in the first half of the championship.
