According to the UN, almost 30,000 people have reached Italy’s coasts since the beginning of the year, four times more than in the same period last year. Numbers are likely to increase if the weather for the Mediterranean crossing improves by summer.
The destination of the boats is the same as it has been for years, the starting point is new.
