Berlin won’t save the world after all, who would have thought? And it wasn’t even close. Although a narrow majority of around 442,000 voters voted in favor of the climate referendum on Sunday, around 423,000 voters were against it.

However, the approval rate was missed by at least 25 percent of all eligible voters – that would have been around 608,000 yes votes. So none of it was of any use: the courageous cultural workers who sometimes traveled extra for free, the caring TV advertising by public broadcasters, the millions in donations. What a reality slap.
