Game over. Paris SG goalkeeper Keylor Navas, 37, announced Thursday evening that he was ending his international career with Costa Rica, a team in which he played for more than 15 years and of which he was the emblematic captain.

“This chapter of my life is coming to an end… It’s a bittersweet feeling, difficult to assimilate,” Navas said in a video posted on his Instagram account and embellished with images from his career with the “Ticos “. “Together we wrote history by facing the best players in the world, taking the name of Costa Rica to new heights,” said the player, who will also leave Paris at the end of the season.

Since his first selection in 2008, the former Real Madrid goalkeeper has played 114 matches with Costa Rica, including three World Cups, the last in Qatar in 2022. Keylor Navas reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2014 at Brazil, only losing on penalties against the Netherlands (0-0 ap). “I feel incredibly lucky and privileged for all of this,” he emphasized.

The Costa Rican Federation, which had been informed by the player of this announcement, paid tribute to him: “on behalf of all of Costa Rica, we thank you for these 16 years during which you embodied the country with class. Great Keylor!” At the end of his contract at PSG, Navas also announced on May 11 that he would leave this club at the end of the season, without giving any indication of his future.

Arriving in the French capital in 2019, he played 110 matches in all competitions with Paris, but his role has been significantly reduced since the Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma joined PSG in 2021. Before that, he had notably played five years under the colors of Real Madrid, winning three Champions League (2016, 17 and 18).
