So far, many observers have assumed that Ukraine could face a serious problem if Donald Trump becomes the Republican presidential candidate again and then possibly moves into the White House for a second time. Finally, Trump’s closeness to Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin is well known, as is his personal dislike for Ukraine, which involuntarily played a central role in Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2019-2020.

On Monday, however, it became clear that Kiev could face major difficulties even if Trump were to lose the inner-Republican power struggle.
