Violent attacks on the Greens are part of the fixed repertoire of almost all election campaign appearances or general meetings of the Union parties. Top politicians from the CDU and CSU regularly target Economics and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck. But also his party as a whole, which is preferably held responsible for bans, paternalism, a state that is spreading like octopuses – and of course for the so-called woke and gender culture, which is a nuisance for many Union politicians and voters.

And yet CDU leader Friedrich Merz, who usually does not shy away from attacks on the Greens, is now indirectly but quite openly shaking hands with this party.
