It’s in the old hat… The proverb is true once again with the very honorable success of the American comedy Everything But You, released in the United States for Christmas and since then in Europe. Director Will Gluck thus went to look for a title from 2004 in the forgotten songs section for his soundtrack. Like Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, brought up to date by the series Stranger Things, or Makeba by Jain, Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield is enjoying a second wind on social networks; this is the trending song on the TikTok platform since the release of the film.
When leaving the cinema, many Internet users film themselves dancing and singing to Unwritten. “We after seeing Everything except you,” published a user on the Chinese platform. “This has become my favorite song,” another account commented. On TikTok, the song which combines good humor and nostalgia has been shared nearly 100,000 times
The film crew also took up the trend on the social network by posting videos of actor Glen Powell and singer Bedingfield dancing in the corridors of a cinema. In the comments, users even complain about not being able to get the music out of their heads. “I’m warning you, if you go see the movie, this song will haunt you for days,” one user wrote.
Will Gluck’s feature film Everything But You, largely inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, surpassed the $125 million mark at the box office. Reinterpreted by Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), they play the roles of two people who can’t stand each other but who pretend to be a couple. The film, released in France on January 24, is well on its way to becoming Generation Z’s favorite romantic comedy.
