Passers-by found the bones of a student missing in Leipzig since 2019. Her remains were found in a forest area in the Saale-Unstrut area in the Burgenland district, as the public prosecutor in Leipzig announced on Thursday. There are currently no indications of third-party negligence. The 23-year-old woman has been missing since September 25, 2019.
Shortly before the 23-year-old disappeared, she wanted to drive to a furniture store in Günthersdorf, a district of the city of Leuna (Saxony-Anhalt) near Leipzig. After her disappearance, the area around the furniture store was searched by a large contingent of police with sniffer dogs. Three weeks after the young woman’s disappearance, divers looked for clues in a pond and the Elster-Saale Canal. Even then, the search for her was no longer limited to Saxony. Photos of the missing woman were also posted in Saxony-Anhalt and Berlin.
A tracking dog had also led the police to Giebichenstein Castle in Halle. The young woman had wanted to meet a friend there at a university event. According to the police, this meeting did not take place. At the end of June last year, a video on the missing person case in Leipzig was also broadcast on the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… unsolved”.
