Two days after the bodies of a woman and a small child were found in Berlin’s Weißen See, both were identified. It was a 29-year-old woman from the Weißensee district and her 20-month-old son, the police and public prosecutor’s office in the capital announced on Wednesday.

The investigation into the circumstances of her death continued, it said. According to the preliminary findings, the two drowned, it said. The bodies could have been in the water for several weeks.

The bodies were discovered by passers-by on Monday in the lake in the Pankow district. First, a homicide commission determined, but on Tuesday it was said after autopsies that there were no injuries that indicated third-party negligence.

The Weiße See is located in the north-east of Berlin, in the Weissensee district, and has a lido, among other things.
