There it was again, the difficult question about the daycare child’s carnival costume. What was wanted was a ninja outfit with a sword. At least not Indians. So off you go to the contemporary check. Ninjas are ancient Japanese fighters or spies. So cultural appropriation, that’s bad. Fighting and sword (can only be made of rubber, according to the daycare requirement) are somehow bad, especially in these times. The also very well-known TV Ninja Turtles, on the other hand, are turtles that were once trained by a rat in the New York underground and then experienced all sorts of adventures together. On the one hand, this could be a humanization of the animal world, but it could also awaken children’s imaginations. So it’s good and bad.

After all, the ninjas as a Lego modification “Ninjago” and through the mentioned US series are also products of a global marketing machine, whose commercial victims the offspring have apparently already been. Not good. On the other hand, there was definitely gender equality among the historical ninjas, there were also female groups, they were called Kunoichi. Nothing is known about transgender ninjas. But overall good. Her martial art still lives on today as Ninjutsu, sport is always good, especially since the older siblings had it as a school club.

Other parents apparently got through faster with this wokeness check, in any case the costumes offered in classified ad portals were all gone very quickly. As a ninja parent you have to be quick. But a children’s shop still has a copy, the most wonderful synthetic fiber, the sword (rubber) for 15 euros. The one-day fighter pays for this from his savings, common cost awareness, that’s good. And the costume fits perfectly, looks cute and makes him very happy. In fact, it’s very good.
