In a refugee accommodation in Hamburg-Ohlsdorf, a man died after an argument. According to initial findings, a resident hit himself with an iron bar on Thursday evening, injuring several men. One of them later died from his severe injuries. It is now being investigated on suspicion of a homicide. The “Hamburger Abendblatt” had previously reported.

There had already been another death in a refugee shelter this week. A man died in a fire, the responsible State Criminal Police Office (LKA) took over the investigation. The identity of the dead could not be clarified at first. The only thing that was clear was that it was a man. The cause of the fire was still unclear.

Passers-by alerted the fire brigade early Monday evening after seeing flames in house 18 of the residential accommodation on Tessenowweg in the north district. When the fire brigade and police arrived, the upper floor of the building made up of containers in the Winterhude district was already fully engulfed in flames.

A 38-year-old resident had reportedly tried to help himself before the fire brigade arrived. He suffered smoke inhalation and injured his hand. He was then treated as an outpatient in a hospital.

House 18 is no longer habitable for the time being and, according to the police, was confiscated in order to determine the cause of the fire. The municipal operator Fördern und Wohnen has now organized emergency accommodation for ten affected residents.

The extent of the property damage could not be quantified for the time being. According to the fire brigade, the fire on the upper floor affected an area of ​​​​about 15 by 25 meters. Around 75 firefighters were able to extinguish the fire on Monday evening.
