Kingsley Coman raised his arms apologetically. Despite his beautiful goal, the Frenchman didn’t want to celebrate. Probably out of respect for his former club. After all, the Frenchman went through almost all youth teams of Paris St. Germain. But now he’s playing for Bayern Munich. And that’s pretty good at the moment. In the 1-0 win against PSG in the first leg of the Champions League, the 26-year-old was the most conspicuous from Munich, and not only because of his goal to make it 1-0.

Coman has been the most consistent Bayern Munich offensive since the end of the World Cup break. Before the game in Paris, coach Julian Nagelsmann decided in favor of him and against Thomas Müller. The captain, who is currently standing in for the injured Manuel Neuer, only sat on the bench at the start of the game. “Thomas has had good momentum in the last two games. It was a very tight decision,” Nagelsmann said before kick-off on Amazon Prime: “I spoke to him. These are not pleasant conversations, but unfortunately they are part of my professional profile. He took it professionally and well.”

The dangerous offensive around Eric-Maxime Choupo-Motinng and Coman proved the coach right. Already in the first half it was Coman who was involved in the few offensive actions by Bayern. After the break, he used a cross fantastically to take the lead. In the 53rd minute he volleyed a Davies cross and scored from 15 meters to make it 1-0.

Once again, Coman proved himself an expert on Paris St. Germain. In 2020, the midfielder scored what is arguably the most important goal of his career to date, scoring against PSG in the Champions League final and heading Bayern to a premier league triumph. “This is my home here. That’s why I didn’t celebrate, but I’m very happy. It’s an important win. We can do a lot if we play like this. We’re on the right track,” said Coman.

When Nagelsmann replaced Coman in the 75th minute – he had received a blow to the ankle, he gave his jersey to a ball boy who was standing on the sidelines.
