In the cavalcade that is Hollywood awards season, these are the trophies that no one chases. Nicknamed the “anti-Oscars,” the Razzie Awards celebrate the worst in cinema every year. The organization, which has a thousand voters (film buffs and journalists), has made public its list of dunce caps from the seventh art. Action and horror films get the lion’s share of infamy.
The fourth installment in the Expendables mercenary franchise, Expend4bles garners a record seven nominations: worst film, worst supporting roles for Sylvester Stallone and Megan Fox, worst duo, worst sequel, worst director and screenplay. Followed by the horror films The Vatican Exorcist and the improbable Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Five chances of “golden raspberry” each. Superheroes and flops in theaters Shazam: Rage of the Gods and Ant-Man Quantumania are not far behind with four nominations.
Among the actors, Chris Evans and Jennifer Lopez are in the running for the title of worst performers. The first is penalized for the atrocious explosive romance Ghosted – his character is dumped by a conquest who happens to be a secret agent. The former Captain America faces in his category Russell Crowe as an exorcist priest, Jason Statham in pursuit of megasharks in Meg 2: The Trench, Jon Voight (Mercy) and ace driver Vin Diesel (Fast X).
