Investigators from the US Department of Justice searched the private home of US President Joe Biden in Rehoboth, Delaware on Wednesday. This was announced by Biden’s lawyer Bob Bauer on Wednesday morning (local time). The background is investigations into the possible whereabouts of other secret documents in the private rooms of the US President. According to the lawyer, this is a planned search by the FBI, in which investigators had the “full support” of the president.

In the past few weeks, confidential documents have repeatedly appeared in Biden’s private rooms – in Delaware and the US capital Washington. The public only found out about some of the finds when the media reported on them. Attorney General Merrick Garland hired a special counsel to investigate the incidents. The US government was criticized for its information policy.

FBI agents had already searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the state of Florida last August and confiscated numerous secret documents. In this case, a special prosecutor was appointed in November.

A US law requires presidents and vice presidents to turn over all their emails, letters and other documents to the National Archives after leaving office. Just last week it became known that secret files had also been discovered in the house of Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence.
