Argentina’s Ricardo Gareca has been named coach of the Chile team, the Chilean Federation announced on Thursday. Gareca, former Peru coach, will be responsible for leading La Roja during the 2024 Copa America (June 20-July 16) and qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

After six days of qualifying for the World Cup, Chile is eighth with 5 points, tied with Paraguay (7th). The top six will qualify for the final tournament in Canada, the United States and Mexico (June 11-July 19, 2026), and the seventh will play an intercontinental play-off. Ricardo Gareca is a former Argentina international.
