Fireworks, fondue and festive decorations: the preparations for New Year’s Eve have begun! Now it’s time to say goodbye to 2022 – and open the door to 2023.

What must not be forgotten during the preparations: the New Year’s greetings. After all, you and your favorite people want to start the new year off right. If you want to make it easy for yourself, you can write “Happy New Year!” on a card or via WhatsApp. However, this approach lacks a bit… flair.

You want a message that can keep up with the New Year’s Eve fireworks? Then you’ve come to the right place. We’ll tell you how you can creatively design your New Year’s greetings – and the best way to send them.

Why not send a personal review of the year as a personal greeting to acquaintances, relatives and friends?

There are many options when it comes to design. You can write down a highlight per month, a countdown of the ten best moments of the year, or write down particularly memorable experiences together with the respective recipients. That may sound like a lot of effort. However, depending on how you do it, you can mention some events in multiple cards. And anyway: We like to make a lot of effort for our loved ones!

If the annual review is still too much for you, you can also convince with a card you have made yourself. For example, you can paint something, take a photo or create a collage. After that, all you have to do is scan or photocopy the motif. That way you can reuse it for every card you send out this year.

Lead casting has a long tradition in Germany. The ancient Romans and Germans are said to have tried to interpret the future in this way. However, lead casting has been out in Europe since 2018: The European Union has set a new limit value for lead in products via the Chemicals Ordinance.

But you don’t have to give up tradition as such. Pewter and wax casting are popular alternatives, and sets are also available commercially. So how about sending your acquaintances casting sets – and sharing your respective prophecies on New Year’s Eve?

Speaking of New Year’s traditions, you and your New Year’s party can also film yourself trying out a tradition. You can then send the video message to friends and relatives who are celebrating somewhere else.

It is up to you which tradition you want to choose. You can draw inspiration from all over the world: Do you want to run around the house with a suitcase in your hand, for example? Many people in Central and South America do this to manifest beautiful trips in the next year. Or would you rather bake a coin in the bread? In Greece, whoever bites the coin is said to have good luck in the new year.

In addition to the brilliant idea, the shipping method is also important. A greeting card or message quickly loses its charm if it arrives too late.

WhatsApp is just the thing for fans of digital greetings. With the function “Broadcast” you can send messages and files to several recipients at the same time. The ingenious thing: your WhatsApp contacts receive your broadcast individually – and cannot see who else has received the message.

To create a broadcast, you must first click the three dots icon in the app and select “New Broadcast”. After that, your contact list will pop up. Here you can select all those who should receive your New Year’s Eve message. You can now send messages in the broadcast chat that opens afterwards. Everything you send also appears in your individual chats with the respective recipients. The greetings are thus sent quickly – and everyone feels greeted personally.

Another digital shipping option is the electronic greeting card, or e-card for short. You can distribute a New Year’s Eve or New Year’s card as an email free of charge via providers such as “Viersicht” or “Grusskartenbote.de”. Choose one of the previously created motifs, think of a nice message and the card is ready to be sent! Alternatively, some websites allow you to upload your own image.

Our tip: To test that the e-mail really works, enter yourself as a recipient. If the online greeting card ends up in your mailbox, that’s a good sign.

Most providers offer their service for free – but save your personal data. These can possibly be forwarded to partners or sponsors. If you are uncomfortable with this, you may be better served with another shipping option.

All good things come in threes, and one method of shipping that has always been used for New Year’s Eve cards is good old-fashioned mail. If you choose this option, it’s just important that you submit the greetings on time. Because in December two factors come together: everyone wants to send their loved ones something for the holidays – but no mail is issued on the holidays themselves.

So the motto is: the sooner, the better. So that your recipient does not receive the shipment before 31.12. opens, you can write a small note on the envelope or the package to be on the safe side: “Do not open before the New Year!”.
