A Jew wearing a yarmulke has been insulted and threatened anti-Semitically in Berlin-Neukölln. The state security at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) took over the investigation into the incident on Wednesday evening, the police said on Thursday.

According to initial findings, the 34-year-old is said to have left a bar around 9:40 p.m. and headed towards the Neukölln S-Bahn and U-Bahn station. On the way, strangers are said to have suddenly insulted and threatened him in an anti-Semitic way. According to a police spokeswoman quoted by “Spiegel”, they are said to have shouted “Fucking Jew, I’ll kill you”. When the man, who was accompanied by a woman, pulled out his cell phone, the two perpetrators fled.

Again and again there are attacks on people who wear the traditional Jewish headgear – a small circular cap – as a visible sign of their faith. Last March, for example, a 24-year-old Syrian man had his kippah knocked off his head in Prenzlauer Berg. About a month later, a 32-year-old with a kippa-like cap was threatened with anti-Semitism in Berlin-Köpenick.
