The Berlin rapper Sido spent several weeks in a psychiatric clinic from March. That’s what the musician, whose real name is Paul Würdig, said to the magazine “Spiegel”. The stay took place at my own request. His ex-wife, the presenter and influencer Charlotte Würdig, made the appointment for him.

Sido became known as the rapper with the silver mask. His breakthrough came in 2004 with his song “Mein Block”. The 41-year-old says of his mental crisis and a previous drug-related total crash: “Everything got out of hand. In the end I was stuck.”

He slipped into the crisis at the beginning of the corona pandemic. He started taking chemical drugs again; Pills, liquid ecstasy, speed. “Without rehab and the physical checks in the clinic, I probably wouldn’t have survived this summer.”

The chemical drugs slipped him into a cycle of addiction and sex. His wife threw him out and his family broke up. Only in the clinic did he understand that he not only needed withdrawal, but also therapy.

“The therapists there said at least that I don’t have depression and that I’m not a narcissist. I thought that was me. After a week I was through with rehab, but I realized that this is just the beginning.”

During treatment, he then noticed the role played by the absence of his own father and his self-created fictional character Sido in his mental problems. This has led to the fact that hardly anyone still knows Paul Würdig. “I hate Sido and I love Sido,” he says himself.

Today, according to the father of four sons, he is clean, but he doesn’t want to give up smoking weed. “Smoking weed was never my problem either.” His new album, which is also supposed to be an artistic new beginning, will be released in December. The title: “Paul”.
