Manuel Neuer will probably return to his regular place next Saturday. The FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper has recovered from a bruised shoulder joint and should be back between the posts after missing seven games against Hertha BSC.

Before his comeback, the 36-year-old made a statement to the public. According to his own statement, the captain of the national team has had skin cancer three times and has had multiple surgeries as a result.

The time of publication is no coincidence: Neuer founded a cosmetics company together with Wimbledon winner Angelique Kerber. Together with the tennis player, he is launching a sunscreen with an extremely high sun protection factor. The driving force is the experience he has had in the past. “We both have a history of skin diseases. In my case, skin cancer on my face, which required three surgeries,” said Neuer. A fact that he has been able to hide from the public to this day.

Nothing is known about the timing of Neuer’s cancer. The goalkeeper seems to have survived the surgery well. National coach Hansi Flick is planning for the World Cup in Qatar with Neuer as the regular goalkeeper and captain. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann gives Flick hope that Neuer will be fit in time for the first German group game against Japan on November 23: “He’s fine. The development of the last few weeks is good. It’s possible that he’ll appear again in Berlin at the weekend. We have to see that from day to day.”
