According to authorities, around 100 people were injured during Halloween celebrations in South Korea. Choi Cheon Sik of the fire department said 120 people were killed in a crowd on a narrow street in the capital Seoul on Saturday evening. The people were probably crushed to death. Several people suffered cardiac arrest. Several foreigners were also taken to hospitals. The death toll could continue to rise.

The incident took place in Itaewon district, Choi said. According to police, dozens of people were given first aid at the scene. Scores of other people were taken to hospitals. Choi said more than 400 rescue workers have been dispatched across the country to treat the injured.

According to local media reports, the crush came about because numerous people rushed to a bar where a prominent person is said to have stayed.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered security arrangements for celebrations to be reviewed.
