England international fly-half Owen Farrell is in contact with Racing 92 for the coming seasons. The 32-year-old, who has 112 caps with the XV de la Rose, could sign up for two or three seasons. According to information from British media The Rugby Paper, the price asked for Owen Farrell by Saracens would be around 600,000 euros.
Following the defeat of the Ciel et Blanc on Sunday on the lawn of Bath, the English manager of Racing, Stuart Lancaster, confirmed contacts with the fly half of Saracens and the XV de la Rose. “He would be a great recruit. Who wouldn’t want a player like Owen Farrell?,” he said. “We’ll see how it goes. No deal has been reached, there’s no confirmation of anything for next year.” Lancaster knows Farrell well having started him in the national team in 2012 against Scotland.

And the former member of the staff of the Irish province of Leinster added: “Racing is often associated with key players and I am lucky that my relationships with players from England and Ireland are part of that , but we’ll see. (…) I signed for four years and what I’m trying to do is build a team that can win this year and a team that will also be very competitive over the next two years.
After finishing third at the World Cup with England, Farrell recently decided to take a break from his international career in order to recharge his batteries mentally. He would no longer be able to play in the selection if he signed for Racing, according to the current eligibility criteria of the English Federation.
The arrival of Owen Farrell in Hauts-de-Seine would continue a tradition of renowned openers at the Ile-de-France club, under whose colors the New Zealander Dan Carter, the Irishman Johnny Sexton and the ‘Scottish Finn Russell. Since Russell’s departure for Bath at the end of last season, the position is currently occupied by Antoine Gibert, Tristan Tedder and Martin Méliande.
