End of more than fifty years of career. Alain Chamfort announced on RTL Friday January 12, at the microphone of Steven Bellery, his retirement. An announcement which comes a few weeks before the release of his 16th album, L’Impermanence, his latest. “I had the impression of having concluded on this next album a point of view on the themes that we developed. It’s a kind of conclusion, an assessment, this album, on different things, on life. I don’t think in 10 years I would have a different point of view. I have reached an age where my point of view is made,” declared the singer.
The one who knew how to interpret the texts written by the greatest, including Serge Gainsbourg, with delicacy and elegance, took this decision with deep serenity: “On an artistic career, I find it nice to have a given the end signal. It’s an intuition, a natural desire, that I want to respect.” And in no way wishes to produce “one album too many”. Suffering from bone cancer, which he returned to in 2019 after his recovery, the singer affirms that this episode has nothing to do with his resolution to quit.
Former pianist of Jacques Dutronc, Alain Chamfort, who became a singer in 1972 under the leadership of Claude François, has always favored his artistic freedom, and can boast today of having been “in agreement with the repertoire that he created”. While waiting for the release of his full twilight album, fans can get a glimpse of it with a four-song EP as a tasty preamble.
