The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office has filed charges against the German suspect in the case of the missing British girl Maddie for several other serious sexual offences. As the authority announced on Tuesday, the 45-year-old Christian B. is accused of three serious rapes and two serious sexual abuses of children. However, the charges do not relate to the Maddie case.

As the public prosecutor’s office in the Lower Saxony city announced, B. is said to have committed the crimes in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. The victims were therefore girls and women between about ten and about 70 to 80 years. Apparently some of them are unknown, in most cases the investigators refer to video recordings that the accused made himself. In one case, he was caught on the spot by the police.

B., who has a criminal record for child abuse, is currently serving a seven-year sentence in Lower Saxony for raping a 72-year-old US tourist in Portugal. According to German authorities, he used to stay there regularly.

B. is also listed by the Portuguese and German investigators as a suspect in the case of the British girl Madeleine “Maddie” McCann, who disappeared from a Portuguese holiday resort in 2007. There is still no trace of the three-year-old.
