Climate protection demonstrators continued their protests in Berlin and blocked the entrance to the Green party headquarters on the square in front of the New Gate. According to the police, around 50 people with posters and banners were there on Tuesday afternoon. A demonstrator got stuck on the sidewalk, but he didn’t bother him there. According to the group Extinction Rebellion, around 80 people took part.

“We want to survive,” read a banner held by protesters in a tweeted photo. “The ministry led by the Green Robert Habeck is not a climate protection ministry, but a ministry for fossil companies. Because whether it’s a gas, coal or oil company, they benefit from the current economic policy,” criticized Extinction Rebellion.

In the past few days, the group had repeatedly blocked streets in the city center not far from the government district, such as the Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse intersection, streets at Potsdamer Platz and the Schlesisches Tor in Kreuzberg. The last generation initiative, on the other hand, had focused on freeway blockades since the beginning of the year.

Extinction Rebellion had announced that it would protest in the government district of Berlin for four days and disrupt operations with blockades. Last Saturday, around 350 people also blocked an intersection at the Schlesisches Tor. The police broke up the meeting and, according to their own statements, determined the personal details of 235 participants. There were charges of coercion and investigations into resisting law enforcement officials.

The Extinction Rebellion initiative has protested several times in Berlin. Almost two weeks ago, the group dumped green paint, which they say was non-toxic, into the Spree in the government district. That should be a symbol of the effects of the climate catastrophe around the world.

Climate activists also invaded the site of the coal-fired power plant in Jänschwalde in southern Brandenburg on Monday morning. They occupied rails, track systems and conveyor belts.
