Habib Beye announced this week his departure from Red Star, which he has been coaching since 2021. The former defender is already looking ahead to next season and displaying his high ambitions. In an interview with L’Equipe, the ex-international (110 matches with Senegal) believes that he now has the level required to play on a bench in Ligue 1. Joining the elite explains why he refused to continue the adventure with the Red Star: “The answer is no because I say it: I have an ambition which is very high and from a moment on, you ask yourself the question of telling yourself how many time it will take me to get to where I want to be.”

The Canal consultant says he is ready to join a Ligue 1 club if it is ambitious: “From the moment you want to go to the highest level, you don’t set limits for yourself. I didn’t say to my advisors, “Gentlemen, below the top 10, you don’t talk to me about what’s going on.” It wouldn’t make sense. We are not going to question whether it is the 15th, the 14th, the 8th or the 3rd who is coming to ask you. It’s all a question of the project.”

Approached by OL last winter but also by Rennes, two avenues that he mentions in daily life, the former Marseille defender (between 2003 and 2007) does not hide his attachment to Marseille: “If people think that I place me at OM, go ahead, say it. (Laughs.) It doesn’t bother me at all. But fortunately if OM shows up tomorrow, I will go. It’s the club that has given me the most emotion since my childhood. I was the captain. If OM calls me, but I’ll run there! I have no problem saying that.”
