46,514 Corona cases were reported to the RKI yesterday.
Compared to the previous week, there is an increase of eleven percent.
This is the sixth working day in a row with a plus compared to the previous week.
The trend reversal towards higher case numbers continues to solidify – it looks like we are at the beginning of the autumn wave of 2022.
Seasonally, that would fit in with previous years.
If you take the day as a benchmark when the 7-day average of new cases was above the previous week’s level for the first time, then the autumn wave 2020 began on September 9th.
In 2021, the threshold was crossed on October 1st.
This year the time had come on September 13th.
Earlier corona waves in Germany usually started in individual regions, from where they then spilled over to other parts of the country.
The autumn wave 2022, if it actually materializes, is apparently different:
The numbers began to rise almost simultaneously in almost all federal states.
With the exception of NRW, all federal states are in the plus with their incidence compared to the previous week.
The incidence in 15 of the 16 federal states also increased from yesterday to today, the only exception here is NRW.
At the weekend, not a single federal state had an incidence above the threshold of 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days.
In the meantime, 5 of the 16 federal states are above the 300 mark: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saarland, Bremen, Brandenburg and Lower Saxony.
Nationwide, the incidence increases from 236 to 244.
230 corona deaths were reported to the RKI yesterday, 113 more than a week ago.
The daily reading is the highest since May 11.
But: 107 of the 230 come from Baden-Württemberg alone. In Stuttgart, the high value is explained succinctly with “late registrations”.
Every day we hear the new Corona case numbers. But what do they mean, where are we in the pandemic and what is the trend? Olaf Gersemann explains and evaluates the current figures briefly and concisely – every morning anew.
