In recent weeks, the Active Participation Centers have resumed their activity. One of these was the annual coexistence “Let’s go to rice”, which has returned following the pandemic. It is held in La Piza in Sierra de Maria.
This return to normality was celebrated by 500 people aged from Guadix and Guadix as well as Castril, Huescar, Castril, Castril, and Cullar. This is a celebration of coexistence in the natural world that is held annually around these dates. It’s a day that is always very memorable, but this year it was even more special after being unable to celebrate it for two years due to the pandemic. There are many activities that take place during the day, but the most important one is the preparation of paellas so everyone can enjoy the delicious country rice. Although each town had its own female chefs, in Huescar the majority of the cooks were men, led by Julian Martinez, the Huesca chef.
Baza was represented by 100 people. They were accompanied by Manolo Guillan, the mayor of Cullar, Mariana Palma, the Councilor for Social Welfare and Francisca Izquierdo, the director of Baza Active Participation Center. Manuel Montalvo, the delegate for Equality, Social Policies and Conciliation, and Alonso Segura, Ramon Martinez, and Castril mayors, participated as well.
The mayor of Bastetano spoke to the participants, stating that the importance of this activity’s recovery after two difficult years was evident, “since the social relationships and coexistence we have lost so much are essential to our development and our mental well-being.”
The mayor of Baza visited the Baza Active Participation Center a few days ago. They are slowly recovering their activity and now have both the afternoon schedule as well as a complete list of proposals. The activities of coexistence will continue in June with a new trip to the Sierra de Baza.
