Sandrine Bonnaire accuses: “it was medical negligence that led to the death of my mother”

The actress Sandrine Bonnaire accuses, in an interview with Le Parisien published Friday, a public nursing home in Charente-Maritime of “medical negligence” having led, according to her, to the death of her mother in August, and confirms her intention to file a complaint. “I decided to speak out to alert,” explains the actress three days after broadcasting a video on social networks in which she announced her decision to file a complaint, without at that time giving details on the establishment targeted. .

“My mother was in a public nursing home in Charente-Maritime (…) We noticed that there was no toilet paper, then that the cleaning was not always done, the sheets were not changed, lists the actress. My mother hardly walked anymore (…) but several times, the carafe of water was placed at the other end of the room. Impossible for her to help herself.”

For Sandrine Bonnaire, “it was medical negligence that led to her death. It took us several months to put the elements together. My mother had no illness, she was 84 years old. Asked by AFP, Sandrine Bonnaire’s agent did not respond on Friday. The Saintes public prosecutor’s office (Charente-Maritime) was not immediately able to confirm the filing of a complaint.

These accusations come almost two years after the Orpea scandal which broke out in January 2022 in the wake of the publication of the investigative book Les Fossoyeurs, by journalist Victor Castanet, on cases of mistreatment of residents of the private group of retirement homes. Following this scandal, the executive announced a strengthening of controls on nursing homes, both public and private, by the Regional Health Agencies (ARS) and the departmental councils.

“I can no longer fight for my mother who is no longer here but I want to do it so that the care of our elders changes,” explains Sandrine Bonnaire. “We need more resources, certainly an increase in salaries so that employees can work properly.” “There are plenty of people who tried to fight but had to give up,” she adds. It’s a long fight that we’re preparing for.”
