Tony Klein, 37, was charged with 21 counts for depriving victims of constitutional rights not to be subject to cruel or unusual punishments by sexually assaulting them at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. The U.S. attorney’s Office District Oregon announced Monday.
According to the Justice Department, Klein of Clackamas County was accused of various forms of sexual abuse, including aggravated and bodily injury.
The attorney’s office also stated that Klein faces four perjury charges in connection to a federal suit alleging sexual misconduct during his time as a nurse at the facility.
Klein, through his attorney, pleaded guilty to all charges during Monday’s court hearing, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.
Oregon Public Broadcasting published last week an investigation in which at most 27 women were accused of Klein’s inappropriate actions and sexual assault.
Prosecutors requested his detention but Klein was granted pretrial freedom.
If Klein is convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Klein resigned in 2018 from Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that he was hired by Legacy Health, a nonprofit health system.
Legacy Health spokesperson said that Legacy could not comment on ongoing federal investigations. “Mr. Klein currently is on leave.”
