You know the term post-traumatic stress disorder or the abbreviation PTSD from soldiers. You may still know him from school children and young people who have experienced a serious accident or rape. On the other hand, what has hardly been available so far is knowledge and help for younger children who do not yet have words for the horror that they have experienced and seen. The numbers show how great the need is. According to estimates, around 100 million people are currently fleeing the world, more than 42 percent are under the age of 18. In 2022, 20.4 percent of all asylum applications in Germany were for a child who was less than six years old.

WELT AM SONNTAG has accompanied some of the children and their parents who just arrived in Germany three years ago, as well as the Munich researchers to this day.
