The miracle did not happen: Even at the third passage, in the original Brexit-date, Theresa May failed in their agreement. 286 MPs voted in favour, 344. The deputies had not voted today, just about the exit agreement, but the pending political Declaration on the future of relations with the EU. Only under this condition, the was approved by the lower house speaker John Bercow to re-submit.
“Serious” decision-making
Immediately after the vote, the British Prime Minister described the consequences of the decision as “serious”. Because the legal framework provides that the United Kingdom on the 12. April needs to leave the EU, so in just 14 days.
“That’s not enough time to negotiate a new Deal and ratify it, and has made clear that it does not want to leave without a Deal the EU. That is to say: We must be an Alternative agreement. The European Union has made it clear that a further extension is only possible if we formulate a clear objective.
