The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) has already received pre-orders for more than 1000 49-euro Germany tickets within a good week. The HVV announced this on Friday. There is no official start date for the successor to the temporary summer bestseller 9-euro ticket. “The Hamburger Verkehrsverbund is committed to introducing the Deutschlandticket on January 1, 2023 and has made the necessary preparations for this,” it said.

The federal and state governments had recently reached an agreement on previously open financing issues for local public transport. The new ticket should therefore be introduced as soon as possible. All local and regional buses and trains throughout Germany can be used with the ticket. A total of around 3.5 million 9-euro tickets were sold in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund between June and August. In addition, 680,000 subscribers benefited, who also only had to pay 9 euros for their season ticket during the campaign.

Hamburg’s Transport Senator Anjes Tjarks (Greens) once again promoted the Germany ticket and spoke of a “very big lever” for a mobility turnaround in Hamburg. “We learned in the summer that a cheap offer in public transport has contributed to the significant shift in modes of transport,” said Tjarks, according to the announcement. He calculated that the last time the Hamburg AB ticket was so cheap was in 1993, “compared to 2022, the costs will be roughly halved – with a doubling of the number of kilometers in the HVV overall network and at the same time nationwide validity”.

If you already have a subscription, you don’t have to do anything. “The price of all existing season tickets in the HVV that are more expensive than the new offer will automatically be reduced to the new price,” it said. “That means: All existing customers then pay a maximum of 49 euros per month for their subscription or professional ticket without doing anything themselves.” The city of Hamburg’s social discount on HVV season tickets should also apply to the Deutschlandticket. The social discount has so far been 23 euros and is to be increased to 24.80 euros on January 1st, 2023.
