After the ‘fierce resistance’ has the city of Copenhagen and HOFOR decided to cease all plans to pump untreated wastewater from the sewerage system directly out of the Sound.

this was stated by The Copenhagen mayor Frank Jensen (S) in a posting on Facebook on Tuesday night.

‘It is fully understandable that there has been violent resistance against the planned discharge of sewage in the Sound. We are known all over the world for our clean bathing water in Copenhagen, which we love and are so proud of.

we must fight on. That is why I am also pleased to say that we now have agreed with HOFOR, that the proposed discharge of waste water which is only mechanically cleaned, is cancelled,’ writes Frank Jensen.

the city of Copenhagen and Gentofte Municipality had originally given permission for spildevandsselskaberne Novafoss and HOFOR had to infer of 290,000 cubic metres of waste water in the Sound.

the waste water should be discharged, while working on a development of the Svanemølleholmen in Copenhagen. But the decision was met by huge protests from both the Danish society for nature conservation and the marine biologists, who believe that it destroys the seabed and the environment.

the Greenhouse was initially postponed to October, but now the parties, according to Frank Jensen agreed that there must be a completely new solution.
