Several names of streets and neighborhoods in Mälarhöjden comes from Carl Michael Bellman’s epistles and I know that just Äppeltysken (at the side of the Bostadslotteriet and Positivhataren) is Kristian Rosengren favorites when it comes to Stockholm kvartersnamn. Kristian is the one I usually contact when it comes to the names and numbering issues, in Stockholm. He told me that they Bellmananknutna use came to in 1923 and 1924. As Äppeltysken Vattuköraren, Birfilaren, Bensvarvaren and Namnsdagsblåsaren.
But to return to the Äppeltysken I contacted another of the experts I turn to for help with läsarfrågor: Mats Hayen, historian and archivist at the city archives. In addition, he is chairman of the Bellmansällskapet

On Bellmanssällskapets website bellman.org can under the heading ”Personerne as mentioned in the Fredmans Epistles” to find many hilarious online profiles. If Jean Fredman, who was in reality and over a period of time could call himself hovurmakare, you can read:
”the Renowned watchmaker in Stockholm, but out of, the workshop and the publishers.”
Anders Wingmark, which obviously did not exist in reality, is described with the words:
”Klädmäklare in Urväders alley, for this very happy and småförståndig.”
What wonderful words: småförståndig…
Next year marks the Bellmanssällskapet, which has more than 300 members, its 100th anniversary. It will be celebrated. It is one that is safe.
