Enough is Denmark becoming a tabloid poorer, when BT at the year-end closing for the sale of papiravisen in the weekdays, but Extra the Magazine’s editor-in-chief Poul Madsen keeps stuck in the Extra Magazine as papiravis.
– the Extra Leaf is on paper still a really good business and a very important thing for Additional the Magazine’s identity. It will not be in my time that we stop with the paper, he says.
In 2020, BT only livelihood as a newspaper in the weekdays, while there will continue to be the opportunity to purchase papiravisen in the weekend. Poul Madsen is surprised that the decision is already coming now:
It surprises me that it is already now. I had foreseen, that it was at the end of 2020. But I think also, that they have – excuse me – in breach of their newspaper. It they once could, they don’t care. I also think it is too bad. It is always sad when something that has existed always closes. In the old days was the competition between the Ekstra Bladet and BT healthy. BT have said that they will only be digital, and it seems I have been able to see in their newspaper. Their sport is a shadow of itself.
In 2014 released the documentary Extra Leaf outside of the quote, and it says Poul Madsen, that if oplagsfaldet continues, the newspaper shut down within ten years – i.e. in 2024.
On the question of what has changed since then, ” says Poul Madsen:
– what has happened is that we have been able to make the production of the newspaper smarter. Therefore, the life span of an Extra Leaf on the paper become longer. To BT closes on weekdays to make, that we can be living even longer on paper. Because there is a need for a newspaper out in the drugstores.
Monday announced the BT, that the newspaper no longer will be available in kiosks on weekdays.
To the news agency Ritzau says the editor-in-chief Michael Dyrby:
– We are an in industry where things evolve rapidly. Last year we changed our business to be more digital, and now we are in the process of bringing our avisudgivelser.
– It still provides money on the print, but in and with that we are so digital, and when we look at where the development is going towards a løssalgsavis as ours, then it is appropriate to make an adjustment of the printudgaven now, he says.
Poul Madsen refuses to do Extra Magazine to a newspaper:
– we do not. Our content is too much worth for that we will give it free away. Therefore, we continue to make a betalingsavis. There is no economy in Denmark to make a free papiravis. I have tried with 24 hours. This is a transition phase for BT. BT rates obviously to the livelihood of the digital and happy with it. We are committed to the livelihood of both paper and digital, he says.
