The director of the Brazilian mijnbouwconcern Vale SA yesterday, a step back done. Also four other top managers put their jobs down in the aftermath of the deadly dambreuk on 25 January at a ijzerertsmijn of the company. People were 186 deaths, another 122 people are unaccounted for. It is suspected that the management of the company knew of defects in the dam.

Earlier today, the public prosecutor and the federal police, which is the cause of the dambreuk investigations, asked for the departure of Schvartsman and thirteen other top aides. From interrogation of arrested officers of Vale, the largest mining company in the world, according to the complainants proved that, up to the highest management level, it was known that the dam defects showed and there is a high risk that the dam would break.

Schvartsman, who since may of 2017 was head of Vale, was then in a long letter to the board of directors of the company to his temporary departure. That was immediately accepted. The same applies for three other managers. They may provisionally the offices of the company are entering. Schvartsman has always denied that to him or the company it was known that the defects were at the dam.

Search continues

After the break-up of the 86-meter high dam of the iron mine Córrego do Feijão on January 25, which is a devastating mudslide of 12 million cubic metres of mining waste, a road through the area, hundreds of miles of the country. Offices of Vale in the environment, homes, livestock and vegetation were destroyed. The mining waste, with ijzerertsresiduen, acids, and ammonia has large parts of nature and various rivers in the area are poisoned.

Until now, 186 kill salvaged. To the bodies of the 122 people who, through the mud, be swallowed up, and still be missing, is still being sought.
