Two years later, Chana’s popular festivals are back. The coronavirus deprived one the most important neighborhoods in Granada, preventing it from being able to celebrate its celebrations in 2020 and 2021. However, the improvements made thanks to vaccines and control of the pandemic allowed its return this season. It won’t be a mere return. The organization is excited about the celebrations, which will begin on Thursday, June 23rd and last until Sunday, the 26th.

Jose Fernandez, president, of the La Chana Neighborhood Association acknowledges that financial resources are limited and has had to work hard to put on the most decent celebrations possible. He also explains to IDEAL that there will be everything this year: urban art, battles of rappers, swings and music, and the classic proclamation. “These are difficult times and it is important for all neighbors to take part because they are important.

There will be extensive programming for all ages, including activities for children and adults. However, there won’t be a fireworks display this year. This is in solidarity with people who might be sensitive to the sound of fireworks as well as animals. The flamenco program, which is a common feature at neighborhood parties, will not be held until later in order to give it more significance, but “in a few weeks.”
