The “Last Generation” initiative blocked traffic on Tempelhofer Damm in Berlin on Monday morning. A police spokeswoman told the Evangelical Press Service (epd) that a person had been stuck on the roadway towards the city center near the S-Bahn bridge since the early morning. The police are on site.
There were further traffic blockades on Monday morning in Hanover, Halle, Erfurt and Kempten. A statement from the group said, “It is becoming increasingly evident that the government, under the influence of the top 1 percent, is failing to protect the interests of the population. But we, the 99 percent, are dependent on action finally being taken!”
During the action in Hanover (Lower Saxony), an ambulance was also blocked during its deployment. The activists of the “Last Generation” had glued themselves to the road at the Deisterkreisel in Hanover, obstructing traffic for almost an hour. The vehicle of the Hanover region’s rescue service, which was traveling with blue lights, had to take a detour. According to the regional control center, the condition of the patient in the ambulance did not deteriorate.
A total of seven women and men were involved in the action. The police used oil to free the glued hands from the asphalt and carried the demonstrators off the street.
In Halle (Saxony), too, five activists stuck themselves to the roadway on Professor-Friedrich-Hoffmann-Strasse. Three other people were therefore stuck on the sidewalk, two were not stuck. A little later, the demonstrators were relieved from the street.
In Erfurt (Thuringia), on the other hand, three women and one man sat down on Stauffenbergallee around 8 a.m. Three of them stuck to the road, specially trained police officers broke the demonstrators off the road again. The activists are now being mediated for violating the Assembly Act and on suspicion of coercion.
