Climate demonstrators in Berlin have again caused significant traffic obstructions with a road blockade. Members of the Last Generation group poured concrete on the roadway of the Mühlendamm Bridge in Berlin-Mitte on Wednesday morning. According to a police spokesman, this is a new “modus operandi” for the group.
According to the police, 12 people took part in the action, nine of them stuck to the road in the direction of Alexanderplatz. Around 20 police officers are on site. Traffic was diverted over a large area, but has since been reopened. As the traffic information center (VIZ) Berlin announced on Twitter, there were 15 to 20-minute traffic jams from Leipziger Straße and Grunerstraße.
The “Rbb” reported that police officers had now managed to remove part of the concrete. However, according to the police, remains have already hardened. The Berlin city cleaning should now help to get the track clean again.
The last generation group said that the focus of the campaign was the “misguided transport policy of the German federal government”. With the pouring out of the concrete, it will be used “for a more meaningful purpose” than the construction of new climate-damaging motorways.
